Has anyone found "Sticta weigelii or S. beauvoisii" in Central or Northern California? Taxonomically the two names refer to the same critter: a brownish foliose lichen with bluegreen photobiont, looking above similar to a S. limbata but: with marginal (and laminal) isidia instead of soredia, and with a medium to darkish brown (not tan) dense, long tomentum, the ends of which tomental strands are "frayed" looking (brushlike.) (Brodo, p 671.)
There have been some reports of this being found, and I have heard no confirmation. Shirley Tucker says there are no confirmed finds, but she thinks she found it twice.
If anyone has found one of these rare critters, please inform the group?? Thanks in advance.
