Talk:Pionites melanocephalus
The correct name should be Pionites melanocephalus. Pionites is considered to be masculine, thus the Latin modifier species name should also so be masculine. For a short time, this species was referred to as Caica melanocephala and there was agreement in gender. But when Pionites was recognized as the genus name, the gender did not revert. See David and Gosselin (2002. Gender agreement of avian species names. Bulletin of the British Ornithologists’ Club. 122: 257-282.)
