edit- According to Subías, L.S. (2004: 51), this species is a synonym of Notophthiracarus australis, but the synonymy was not indicated to be new, and no secondary source was specified!
- Subías, L.S. (pers. comm., 2013) has no record of why he listed it as a synonym.
- This synonymy has been (uncritically?) followed by AFD
