Talk:Loxia scotica

Validity edit

Although widely accepted, by e.g. IOC and the official British list, there is no evidence that the birds currently identified by sonogram analysis as Loxia scotica (on which the current acceptance of the taxon relies: Summers et al. 2007, J. Avian Biol. 38 (2): 153–162) are the same taxon as that described by Hartert from skins collected long before the invention of sonogram analysis. It is not reliably distinguishable from other sympatric Loxia taxa (L. curvirostra, L. pytyopsittacus) by morphology or genetic data.
