Talk:Gallus gallus

Taxonomy and classification
The "subspecies" gallina, domesticus, micronesiae and philippensis do not exist and have been deleted. The domesticus subspecies is sometimes used in the scientific literature, especially, in the old days. However, there are currently only five recognized subspecies in this genus. To date, according to the DNA analysis, domestic chickens are considered the descendants of one subspecies, G. g. gallus. Details can be provided upon request. The picture has been changed, too, since the previous picture depicted the domestic fowl, not the wild species of Red Junglefowl. --Michael Romanov 05:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
