Type: U.S.A. Montana: Sanders Co., Bull River highway at Pillick Ridge trailhead, 48o06'20"N, 115o47'20"W, on needles of Abies grandis, 745 m, 20 Jun 2004, Spribille 14190 (holotype COLO, isotypes F, FR, HERB. VĔZDA).
Etymology: A reference to the preference of the species to occur on Abies grandis needles.
Habitat and Distribution: Scoliciosporum abietinum has been found exclusively on leaves of Abies grandis and Thuja plicata in warm, moist forests. The four known collections come from low elevation mixed conifer forests in northwestern Montana and southern British Columbia.
