Type locality: CANADA. British Columbia: Central Interior, North Arm of Quesnel Lake, near mouth of Roaring River, 52^o41.127'N, 120^o53.882'W, on fine branches of Tsuga heterophylla in mixed Alectoria sarmentosa-Nephroma helveticum community ca 2 m above ground, 821 m, 29 Sep 2007, Spribille 24322 & C. Pettitt (holotype CANL).
Etymology: Named after the brown colour of the apothecia.
Habitat and distribution: Schaereria brunnea is known from only three small collections from the fine twigs of Tsuga heterophylla in cyanolichen-rich old-growth boreal rain forests.
