• Formula hybridae: Rosa palustris Marshall, Arbust. Amer.: 135 (1785) × Rosa rugosa Thunb., in J.A.Murray, Syst. Veg., ed. 14: 473. (1784)

Note: Rosa palustris is a true native of North America. whereas R. rugosa is a neophyte whose date of introduction is uncertain. This is a locally widespread natural nothospecies between a east coast North American native and a widely introduced plant from the far east.
