Type: U.S.A., California, Riverside Co.: Peninsular Range, San Bernardino National Forest, San Jacinto Mountains, Thomas Mountain.

Substrate and ecology: On shaded granitic outcrop in oak-conifer woodland.

Etymology: The epithet “vermispora” is derived from the worm-like appearance of the ascospores.
