Type: L.K.A. von Chamisso s.n. (1817; holotype: LE, not located fide Sohmer 1977: 150; lectotype: W-Endlicher 0065914); E. Christophersen & E. Hume 1426 (17 December 1931; epitype: BISH-BISH1010994).
- Note: the epitype was first designated as neotype by Sohmer (1977: 150, fig. 52) due to absence of any original materials. Later, duplicate in W turned out to be an original material and was lectotypified by Berger (2018) and then the neotype was made epitype for maintaining nomenclatural stability and supporting the fragmentary lectotype.
Type locality: United States of America. Hawaii: Oahu.
- Chamisso: In nemorosis montium[Southern Waianae Range, < 730 m alt., or, Southern Koolau Range, < 730 m alt. fide Berger (2018)].
- Epitype: Kah[u]auli Ridge, 500-750 m alt.
