Diagnosis: Squamae ad 3 mm diam., elongatae, vulgo adscendentes, badiae vel castaneae, vulgo pruinosae, vulgo laeves, margine concolori. Apothecia laminalia, ad 1.3 mm diam., plana vel modice convexa vel interdum valde convexa, brunnea, vulgo epruinosa. Thallus acidum gyrophoricum et vulgo acidum lecanoricum et acidum ignotum continens.
Type: U.S.A., California, Santa Barbara Co., Santa Cruz Island, upper end of Islay Canyon, a few mi SW of the University of California Research Station, on bare earth, alt. 300m, 8 January 1986, Weber & Bratt s. n.; Weber, Lich. Exs. COLO No. 664 (holotype, O).
