Diagnosis: Squamae ad 3 mm diam., elongatae, adnatae vel adscendentes, badiae vel castaneae, epruinosae vel interdum leviter pruinosae, vulgo laeves, margine concolori. Apothecia laminalia, ad 1.2 mm diam., plana vel modice convexa vel interdum valde convexa, brunnea, vulgo epruinosa. Thallus acidum gyrophoricum et acidum lecanoricum continens.
Type: U.S.A. Colorado, Grand County, Tonahutu Creek Trail on S-facing slopes at NE end of Big Meadows, 9,500-9,700 ft alt., 6 July 1962, Anderson 2386 (holotype COLO; isotypes, CANL, UC)
