Diagnosis: Phlyctis himalayensis similis sed ascosporis 20–30 µm longis et 5–7 µm latis differt.

Type: INDIA, KARNATAKA, Shimoga district, near Jog Falls, Kargal, 14o10'N, 74o49'E, alt. 644 m, on bark in evergreen forest, 16 January 2008, H.T. Lumbsch, D.K. Upreti, P.K. Divakar & J. Tandon 19743/L (LWG, holotype).

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the name of the locality.

Ecology and distribution: Phlyctis karnatakana grows on tree trunks in the evergreen forest of the tropical areas of southern India.
