Type locality: CHINA. Hunan: Sangzhi Co., Bagongshan, 29o23'N, 110o11'E, 1400 m, 24 May 2002, Chen et al. 9866 HMAS-L 072896, holotype).
Ecology: Corticolous, occurring in mixed evergreen and deciduous broadleaf forests. It is so far known only from the Guizhou and Hunan provinces of China at elevations of 1240-1500 m.
Etymology: The specific epithet wulingensis refers to the locality of the type collection, Wuling Range, located in the Guizhou and Hunan provinces of China.
