This genus is now accepted as a synonym of Cenchrus sensu Chemisquy et al. (2010), however, some combinations are comb. ined. for Cenchrus

Note: Pennisetum subangustum is accepted as a synonym of Cenchrus setosus subsp. setosus autonym along with a number of other combinations, however to date there are no other subspecies for Cenchrus setosus (Govaerts et al., 2022). Therefore, retained here pending further work.
