  • Typus: J. Mildbraed 4673 (in flower, March 1911; Holotypus: B [destroyed]; Lectotypus: HBG [​HBG521307(JSTOR), collected on 19 March 1911, designated by Manning 1996]).
    • Note: although Krause presented collection number as '6473' in the protologue, it has been considered to be an error by other botanists (Bremekamp 1934, Bridson 1978, Manning 1996).
  • Type locality: Südkamerun [= Southern CAMEROON]. Bezirk Molundu, im Randgebüsch von Grasfeldern auf anstehendem Gestein im Urwald, bei Bundi um 15°22' ö. L. und 3°27' n. Br.

      • Note: Bridson (1978) hesitated to sink this name under P. molundensis because of lack of any further specimen agreeing with the description; Manning (1996) does not mention this name, but cites the type specimen of this variety as one of the 'syntypes' of P. insignis.
      • Typus: Mildbraed 2456 (Holotypus: B [destroyed]).
      • Type locality: 'Uganda'[THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO]. [Kivu Province:] Fort Beni.
