Synonyms

edit

    • Opuntia × cubensis Britton & Rose, Torreya 12: 14 (1912).
  • Heterotypic
    • Opuntia antillana Britton & Rose, Brooklyn Bot. Gard. Mem. 1: 73 (1918)
    • Opuntia domingensis Britton & Rose, Cactaceae 4: 259 (1923).
    • Opuntia ekmanii Werderm., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 29: 225 (1931).

Note: Cloned products of ITS suggest that O. cubensis originated as an interclade allopolyploid between Opuntia abjecta and probably Opuntia stricta with which it is sympatric. However, currently it is treated as a distinct species taxon and not a hybrid (Majure et al., 2012 & 2014)
