editName
editIpomoea L., Sp. Pl. 1: 159. (1753) nom. et typ. cons.
- Type species: Ipomoea pes-tigridis L., Sp. Pl. 1: 162. (1753)
Note: There is a proposal (2786) to change the type to Ipomoea triloba L., Sp. Pl. 1: 161 (1753) in order to preserve the status of Ipomoea batatas (the sweet potato) as a member of this genus prior to possible changes in classification. This proposal has been recommended by the Nomenclature Committee in February 2023, but has yet to be formally agreed, therefor the present conserved type is currently the correct type name (Esterman et al. 2022, 2023 & Muñoz-Rodríguez et al., 2023).
