edit- Holochilus vulpinus (Brants, 1827)
Holotype: ZMB MAM 1681, adult indet., skin and fragmented skull.
Type locality: “Brasil”; regarded as Rio Uruguay, southeastern Brazil, by Lichtenstein (1830); restricted to Maldonado, Uruguay, by Cabrera (1961), but Cerqueira (1975) convincingly placed the type locality in Brazil, on the banks of Rio Uruguay, between Itaqui and Uruguay, Rio Grande do Sul.
