Stewartia L., Sp. Pl. 2: 698 (1753).

Type species: S. malacodendron L.

Note:: The spelling Stewartia is sometimes considered a misprint for Stuartia. However, Linnaeus used the same spelling, Stewartia, repeatedly from Species Plantarum, ed. 1 until his death and can hardly be interpreted as an error. See IPNI.
