- Type locality for Pertusaria diluta: U.S.A. Montana: Cabinet Mountains, East Fork Bull River, St. Paul Lake trailhead, 48o07'18"N, 11548o42'00"W, on bark of medium-sized Thuja plicata in old growth forest, with Micarea cinerea, 895 m, 28 Jul 2006, Spribille 20890 & S. Pérez-Ortega (holotype CANL, isotypes CANB, UPS)
- Etymology of diluta: Named for the pastel, washed-out colors of the thallus and apothecia.
- Habitat and distribution of Pertusaria diluta: P. diluta has been found exclusively in old-growth forests. Specimens were collected from bark of trunks, branches and fine twigs of Tsuga heterophylla in ultra-humid rain forest habitats, on bark and mosses over bark on Thuja plicata, on bark of Pseudotsuga menziesii, on fine twigs of Tsuga heterophylla, and on wood of fallen logs, where it was associated with Abconditella lignicola and Lichinodium sirosiphoideum.
