• Holotype locality: Ballyhenry Island, County Down, Northern Ireland (54.392536° N; 5.57712° W).
• Holotype: C.A. Maggs; 11 Nov. 1988; BM 00103312. Isotypes: PC0144058; UNB.

• Named after Louis Deveau, "the founder of Acadian Seaplants Ltd, Nova Scotia, where this species has been in cultivation since 1988".
