Tuck., 1845 (photograph a herbarium specimen showing a roughened apothecium with small ridges and valleys) Growing on exposed granite rock in conifer woods on the shore of Lake Superior, at end of Trail's End Road, near the Montreal River and Highway 17, Ontario, Canada; collected and identified by Richard E. Riefner (No. 81-317, 27 Jun 1981); specimen is now in the Lichen Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden.
