Summary
DescriptionSporobolus caroli plant6 (8279331784).jpg
Native, warm-season, annual or perennial, slender, tufted grass to 75 cm tall. Leaves are flat, hairless or scattered with stiff hairs that have knob-like outgrowths at their base; margins thickened and sharp. Prefers wetter areas and is sometimes locally very abundant after good spring or summer rains.
Produces copious amounts of seed and is a useful coloniser of bare or scalded areas; the seed requiring light for germination. Usually a minor component of pastures. Provides nutritious and palatable feed, but produces little bulk except for short periods after good rains or flooding in warmer months. Once hayed-off, the plant quickly disintegrates.
