Summary

Description
English: Oreomystis mana, or Hawai'ian "Creeper" — An endangered bird from the Big Island—Hawaiʻi, in the Hawaiʻian Islands.
  • It is threatened by diseases like avian malaria and fowlpox, and alteration of habitat. At KBCC, captive-breeding techniques are researched to produce birds for release into the wild.
  • The Hawai'ian "Creeper" is a small, but quite pugnacious and lively bird. It runs along branches and tree trunks, constantly probing bark and plant growth for food. Its drab coloration provides excellent camouflage.
