Summary
DescriptionMonopsis stellarioides 5Dsr 9187.jpg
English: Monopsis stellarioides, untripped flower. The flowers approach in structure so-called "keel flowers". The anthers are fused around the style and this combined structure is hidden from view below the two coherent front petals. Pressure from visiting pollinators landing on the two front petals triggers their separation and the anther-style column is forecefully released (the flowers are said to have been "tripped"). Grassland, vicinity of Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
