DescriptionLaretia acaulis (Atacama-Chile).JPG
English: Laretia acaulis (Cav.) Gill et. Hook, is a cushion plant from the Apiaceae family. Native from Chile, it grows at high altitude environments reaching in its northern distribution ~3800 masl. Conforming tigth and highly resistant surfaces, Laretia faces the extreme conditions of Andean highlands. With very slow growing rates (~1cm/yr in diameter) Laretia individuals usually conform flat rosetes, but sometimes very old individuals show vertical growing too.
