Dichelostemma ×venustum. Taxonomists can't make up their minds how to treat this rose firecracker. D. venustum has been reduced to a footnote under D. ida-maia in both "The Jepson Manual, 2nd Ed." and the "Flora of North America." At times in the past, though, other treatments have granted it species status One parent of this striking flower is certainly D. ida-maia while the other parent may be D. congestum or D. multiflorum. It is a sporadic but stable hybrid growing in mesic habitats in northwestern California and adjoining Oregon.
