Summary

Description Med Moraea (Moraea mediterranea). syn. Gynandriris monophylla: "This is undoubtedly the smallest of the irises with a perianth which does not exceed 2 cm. The flowers are usually light blue or violet, the three external parts with a yellow fleck surrounded by white. There is only one leaf - hence the name; the latter is dart-shaped with a length which can reach to 30 cm. Found in stony locations and phrygana. The name of the genus originates from the Greek words 'gyni' and 'andras' ('woman and man'), and refers to the reproductive organs of the plant - the style and stamens - which are joined."
