DescriptionFalse Boneset (Kuhnia eupatorioides) on Mixed Grass Prairie of Lacreek NWR (13918392166).jpg
The backlit seeds of false boneset (Kuhnia eupatorioides) on Mixed Grass Prairie of Lacreek NWR. Within a few weeks, the wind will scatter the seeds across the prairie. False boneset has one of the deepest root systems of any native plant in mixed grass prairie, penetrating more than 17 feet down into the soil. During severe droughts, when all other plants have gone dormant or died for lack of moisture, false boneset remains green. Photo: Tom Koerner/USFWS
