Native, warm-season, perennial, erect, woody legume 60-100 cm tall. Leaves are elliptical, slightly to very hairy and 4-8 cm long. Flowerheads are racemes to 20 cm long; with 20-40 crowded, deep yellow, pea-like flowers. Fruit are 20-30 mm long, inflated, oblong pods that hang downwards on the stem. Flowering is from summer to winter. Subspecies mitchelli (this one) is mostly found on the North Coast of NSW. Found in pastures and on river flats with sandy or granitic soils. Native biodiversity. Has moderate levels of toxic alkaloids, so could poison stock if it was abundant, but is rarely so.
