Native, annual, erect or decumbent herb. Stems are 3–10 cm long and much-branched. Leaves are ± narrow-lanceolate, mostly 3–8 mm long, 1–2 mm wide, often red-brown, opposite and sessile. Flowerheads are elongate and thyrsoid. Flowers are 4-5-merous. Calyx lobes are 1.5–2.5 mm long and reddish green. Petals are white to cream and 1.5–2 mm long. Pedicels are to 8 mm long in fruit. Grows and flowers when moisture is sufficient; commonly over winter and spring. Grows in moist places where there is little competition.
