Summary
| Description |
brown eyes, Chylismia claviformis subsp. integrior, California, White Mountains, Deep Springs Valley drainage, elevation 1783 m (5850 ft). As the flowers age on this showy desert annual, the centers often take on a brownish color. The species overall is distributed throughout the deserts of western North America. This subspecies is the common white-flowered phase of the Great Basin desert, being found throughout most of Nevada and into the edges of adjacent states. These images were taken near the southwestern limit of its range. The subspecies is found in dry, open, rocky to sandy soils below about 2000 meters (6600 feet). Also visible in this image are yellowthroats (Phacelia fremontii) and whitestem stickleaf (Mentzelia albicaulis). |
