Diagnosis: Basidiocarpi exigui, stipitati, pileati, parte superiore expansa, hymenio basidiali induta; basidia clavata, ex apice sporas in fulcris minutis suffultas producentes.
Type species: Chionosphaera apobasidialis D.E. Cox, 1976
Etymology: Greek chion, -os = snow; and sphaira = ball.
