Typus: H.F. Pittier 3265 (18 March 1911; Holotypus: US [US00129990 (677656)^{(GBIF, JSTOR)}]; ⧼Isotypi⧽: F [fide Taylor 2012], NY [NY00131316^{(GBIF, JSTOR)}).
Type locality: Panama. Chiriquí: between Alto de las Palmas and top of Cerro de la Horqueta, altitude 2,100 to 2,268 meters, in the humid forest.

Taylor (2012) cited Robles & Chacón 2692 (collected in at Cerro Muchilla, Limón, Limón, alt. 850 m, 7 April 1989; deposited in MO-998537 (3824654)^(GBIF)) as Costa Rican occurrence, but she re-determined it with F. trinervia in 2017.
