Homonyms

edit
  • Polygonum cymosum Roxb., Hort. Bengal. 88. (1814) nom. inval.
  • Polygonum cymosum Roxb., Fl. Ind. (Roxburgh) 2: 289. (1832) nom. illeg. (later homonym of Polygonum cymosum Trevir. 1824)
    • described from Chittagong

Note: In databases, there is some dispute about the correct name for this species. The earliest validly published name is Polygonum cymosum Trevir. in Index Seminum [Wroclaw/Breslau (Vratislav)] [2]. (1824), as the listed name is accompanied by a short description in a footnote. Therefore, the correct taxon name has to be Fagopyrum cymosum (Trevir.) Meisn. (accepted by GRIN and current scientific publications). However, Fagopyrum dibotrys (D.Don) H.Hara is retained by Tropicos with reference to Flora of China. (But compare this with Catalogue of Life and The Plant List, basing on Polygonum acutatum Lehm. 1921, nom. inval., validly published in 1828 but nom. illeg.).
