Chippendale (1988) included also Western Australia in native range of both E. rugosa and E. anceps, citing the following specimens:
- R. Parsons 195 (collected at 27 km S of Caiguna, 2 December 1967; deposited in AD 96810164)
- P.G. Wilson 7708 (collected at Point Dover, 4 September 1968; deposited in PERTH 1489933)
- M.I.H. Brooker 2322 (collected at 12.9 km E of Hamersley River crossing, 8 November 1969; deposited in PERTH 1273248); currently determined as E. conglobata subsp. perata Brooker & Slee
- C.A. Gardner 10312 (collected at Nyabing, 22 February 1950 or 1952; deposited in CANB 429749.1 [ex FRI], PERTH {1159089, 1273272, 1273744, 1275291, 1275313, 1275380, 1275399}); all currently determined as E. phenax Brooker & Slee subsp. phenax
Apart from the above, smooth-barked mallees regarded as E. anceps are in fact E. phenax subsp. phenax (vide Brooker & Slee 1996; Slee et al. 2020).
