- Type locality: Cape Royds, Ross Island, Antarctica
- Holotype: P.A. Broady; 4 January 1985; from green epilithic crusts on rocks and stones; CHR; 401416 (misprinted as 40416).
- Epitype (designated by Darienko & Pröschold 2017): authentic strain SAG 23.92, permanently cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state (cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen) in the SAG, University of Göttingen, Germany.
- Iconotype: (designated by Darienko & Pröschold 2017) fig. 1 a-c in Broady & Ingerfeld (1993).
