- Type locality: Lake Jabeler See, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany (53º31'36" N, 12º32'36" E.
- Holotype: Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban, Scotland cryopreserved material of strain CCAP 222/62. Isotype: B40 0040721 (air-dried and formaldehyded-fixed sample of strain CCAP 222/62), deposited at the Botanical Museum at Berlin-Dahlem.
