- Diagnosis: Thallus multilobatus 1–25 mm diametro, numeroso haptero; pagina supera atrobrunnea ad pallida brunnea ubi humida interdum distincte bicolor viridus et brunnea; pagina inferna pallida brunnea ad pallida auribrunnea vel concolora pagina super, laevis vel foveata; perithecia pusilla (148–)200–300(–451) x (154–)200–300(–400) µm, acscosporae subglobosa vel ellipsoidea. Habitat in expositis rupibus siliceis.
- Type: U.S.A. MISSOURI. Stone Co.: 2.1 mi S of White River on St. Rd. 5, sec. 20, T.17N., R.11W., 26 Apr 1988, Harris 21644 (NY, holotype).
- Etymology: The specific epithet refers to its predilection for sandstone
- Ecology and distribution: This species grows on siliceous acidic rock such as sandstone, chert and granite, and sometimes on a thin layer of soil over acidic rock.
