Type: B.B. Klitgaard et al. 507 (in flower, 6 May 1997; Holotype: K ['H2016/00302 19']; Isotypes: AAU [not seen by Radosavljevic; cf. AAU Herbarium Database^(GBIF)], stored as C. crassifolia Benth.], K [K000690002^{(CRIA, GBIF)}], LOJA [not seen by Radosavljevic; cf. 33386^{(GBIF, INABIO)}, stored as C. bauhiniifolia Benth.], NY, QCNE [not seen by Radosavljevic], US; cf. RB [RB00789392 (579142)^(GBIF), determined with C. crassifolia by G.P. Lewis in 1998]).
Type locality: ECUADOR. El Oro, Bosque Petrificado Puyango, dirt track from information centre towards the camping area near Río Puyango, 03°52'30"S, 80°05'01"W, 450 m alt.
