Type species: Coatesia paniculata F.Muell.
Etymology: "after Joannis Coates, specialist in anatomy and technology of Australian timbers."

Note:: Considered as synonym of Geijera Schott by Govaerts and Hassler, but accepted by Appelhans et al. 2021 and APNI.
