- Type locality: Windmill Islands, Wilkes Land, Antarctica (400 m south-west of the Biology building, Casey).
- Holotype: H.U. Ling; 28 January 1992; red snow on cliff face; Antartic Division Herbarium (ADT); The species has been isolated into pure culture and is maintained at the Australian Antarctic Division).
