- Type locality: Priest Pot (small tarn a few hundred yards north of Esthwaite Water, near Hawkshead), Cumbria, England.
- Holotype: Nozaki et al. 1998: fig. 37 based on CCAP 12/8: Jaworski; 1985. Epitype (designated by Nakada 2008): the NIES- 50005 strain permanently cryopreserved in the Microbial Culture Collection at NIES.
