• Type locality: Germany: Göttingen, (Tümpel auf dem "Kleinen Hagen" NW von Göttingen).
• Type: strain SAG 3.95, cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state (epitype) Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban, Scotland. Neotype culture: Indiana Algal Cult. Coll. no.247, Cambridge Coll. no. 211/lc, isolated by Rodhe.
