  • Type locality: Essex salt marshes and also from rock pools at Padstow, Cornwall, and Dawlish, Devon [illustration of material from river Blackwater, Essex].
  • Lectotype: Butcher 1959: pl. 9, fig. 2: strain SAG 19.89 (cryopreserve in liquid nitrogen) in the Sammlung von Algenkulturen, Univ. of Göttingen, Germany (epitype) (Demchenko & al. 2012: 287) ITS-2 DNA Barcode: Barcode M in fig. 3.
