Note: Not all secondary sources accept this combination preferring Vernonia galamensis and its subspecies (Hassler, 2017). However, this is contradictory, as there is almost universal agreement that all species of Vernonia, except those originating in the northern Americas, have to be recircumscribed to other genera - see Robinson (1999). The problem appears to be that the type species, Centrapalus africanus, has been transferred to Vernonella africana by Robinson & Skvarla (2010).
