Type: NEW ZEALAND, SOUTH ISLAND, Nelson, Sharland Creek, 41o15.5'S, 173o20.5'E, NZMS 260 O-27:388943, on siliceous rock in lowland mixed Nothofagus-podocarp forest, alt. 160 m, 12 v. 1993, W. Malcolm 851 (CHR413972).

Etymology: The epithet octomerum refers to the 8-locular ascospores.
