- Type locality: Sines, Portugal (37°58'N, 8°52’W). Holotype: M.D. Guiry & J.A. West; 27 January 1977; type from culture (MDG no. 62) isolated from vegetative fragments collected in the intertidal. GALW 000154. Type: female plant (Fig. 1 of original publication), on a single herbarium sheet with isotype male and tetrasporangial plants (figs 2, 3), all in GALW.
