Type locality: CANADA. British Columbia: Selkirk Mtns., Incomappleux River drainage, W bank of river downstream of confluence with Battle Brook, 50o59.240'N, 117o35.624'W, ca. 700 m, on soft snag in old-growth forest, 24 Aug 2003, Spribille 12692, C.R. Björk & C. Pettitt (holotype CANL, isotypes BG, FR).

Etymology: Named for its occurrence on soft, light wood.

Habitat and distribution: Biatora ligni-mollis appears to have a highly specific ecology, being found so far only on soft, punky wood of conifer snags in humid old-growth forests.
